Feel-Good Fundraising For Mental Health Awareness Week

Leading pitched roof tile manufacturer, Russell Roof Tiles (RRT) is again showing its support for Mental Health Awareness Week.

The theme of the week, which runs from 15 to 20 May, is ‘anxiety’. Stress, anxiety, and depression make up one-fifth of work-related illnesses, and it costs up to £100 billion annually. Construction workers are six times more likely to die from suicide, than falling from a height at work.

For this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week, some of the team at Russell Roof Tiles will be taking part in a corporate 5 a side football tournament at Burton Albion Football Club and are donating £1,000 (raised at the event) to local mental health charity, Burton and District Mind.

Russell Roof Tiles is keen to encourage exercise-related fundraising events, due to the proven benefits between exercise and mental health. Research shows that physical activity can also boost self-esteem, mood, sleep quality and energy, as well as reducing your risk of stress, clinical depression, dementia, and Alzheimer's disease.

Russell Roof Tiles is a long-term supporter of Burton Albion as well as Odisha FC, an Indian professional football club based in Bhubaneswar, an eastern Indian state on the Bay of Bengal.

The RRT team taking part in the friendly fundraising football tournament include Managing Director, Andrew Hayward, Paul McLoughlin, Ross Hayward, Michael Palmer, James Pendleton, John Dervey, Martin Clarke, Nathan Gould, Luke Bacon and Daniel Hancox.

The tournament allows teams the opportunity to play on the same pitch graced by Sergio Aguero, Aaron Webster, Sadio Mane, Jack Grealish and many more famous faces from recent years – with at least three games (60 minutes total) guaranteed for all teams who enter.

Employing 140 people at two sites on Nicolson Way and Wetmore Lane in Burton, and one in Lochmaben (Scotland) the firm is keen to encourage the industry to discuss mental health issues and break down the stigma.

Russell Roof Tiles launched its Mental Health Programme last year and is dedicated to supporting mental health and wellbeing.

Andrew Hayward, Managing Director at Russell Roof Tiles said: “We take the health and wellbeing of our staff very seriously and are pleased that we’re also able to donate to Mind during Mental Health Awareness Week from the game at Burton Albion.

“There shouldn’t be a stigma attached to mental health, which is why we are fundraising for such an incredible charity, and also have support in place within the company to support anyone who feels they may need it.”

Russell Roof Tiles has supported mental health charity Mind over several years, supporting a growing range of projects, such as self-help groups and eco-therapy. Last year the company took part in a Paddleboarding Challenge on the River Trent for Burton and District Mind.

Russell Roof Tiles is a leading independent pitched roof tile manufacturer supplying products for the top housebuilders and high-profile social housing and commercial projects. The company produces thousands of tiles every week that are used on roofing across the UK, for all the UK’s premier housebuilders and developers.
